I call them ‘NUKE Settings‘, simply because if you mess up here or there it would have the same effect as dropping one of those ‘at‘ your browser. OK, OK – I’m a bit exaggerating ;)
There are few interesting options in Google Chrome, that are not available from menu. But, if you know the shourtcut… you may see them. And I’ll provide you with few shourtcuts, and a simple description what you’re gonna find under them.
Let’s start from simple one, however, as I suspect – the most useful for average User
chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
● What does it do ?
★ Ha, you’ve got that right – it display the clear history window. So it’s wonderful replacement for all those ‘one click cleaners‘ that you may find in Google Apps. Just when the prompt will pop up – don’t press ‘Clear‘ for now, firs add it to your Bookmarks Bar, then select what to clear and hit the button.
chrome://flags/
★ Now, here’s the real treat. ‘The NUKE‘ itself. It even have the nuke icon, right next to warning. Scary stuff… no, not really. Just be careful, if you’re not sure what given option does – leave it be. The descriptions seems to be self-explaining though, so if you’re feeling confident – go for it and change few things. I somehow managed not to break my chrome, and I toyed with it a bit ;)
chrome://net-internals/
★ That one is pretty interesting as well. Right after you open that tab, it would start to collect data. It basically capture detailed info about how Chrome use Network, you may also save the data for further review. Useful for Net debug.
To stop it from doing so click on first option ‘Capture‘, then press ‘Stop‘. The red bar would turn to green, and you’d be only a step from saving your data.
Just type anything into description field (at least one character), then hit ‘Save to file‘.
chrome://memory-redirect/
★ Ohh… that’s classic one… remember the option ‘Stats for Nerds‘ ? – That’s it.
It displays detailed statistics about Chrome memory usage. You may find which of your tabs or extension eats up your resources, and cut if off.
chrome://version/
★ That one let you see the detailed info about your Chrome installation. You may get exact patch to your profile from here (for ex. for backup purpose), Current User Agent string, and few other info. Check it out, it woun’t bite ;)
→ There are still few other hidden settings, but I don’t feel that they’d be much of a use for you, so I let myself skip them for now.
