Hi, been a long time since last entry, well… I simply didn’t had enought time for blogging ;P
Let’s start ‘New Year’ with a few Tips & Tricks, I hope that they’ll be helpful for all of you.
Q: How to permanently disable Administrative Shares in Windows 7 ?
A: To do that you’d normally have to manipulate Windows Registry. But I’ve done that for you. Now your job is to simply apply (merge) my patch.
1. Create new, empty text file and save it as ‘AdminShareOFF’ (or however you want),
2. Copy code below and paste it into your text file,
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters]
"AutoShareWks"=dword:00000000
3. Change the file extension from .txt to .reg
4. Double click it and merge it with Registry.
> Done.
Q: Why should I do that ?
A: Because it’s a security hole. And those need to be fix. To be more specify it allow anyone (on your PC/Domain) with an Admin privileges to look through your files on your hard drive, without your knowledge.
Q: Does it work ?
A: Yes, it works just fine on 32-bit and also on 64-bit OS.
ATTENTION: Manipulating Registry may be fatal for your OS. I’ve tested this method on several PCs and didn’t had any issues, however you’re doing it on YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY !
